An often forgotten section of the Christmas Story. Jesus’s naming ceremony and a few very special things said about him.
The Story inside the Bible
Upon the eighth day, when it was eventually time for them to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he were conceived. Once the time of the purification based on the Law of Moses were completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him towards the Lord (as it‘s written inside the Law from the Lord, ‘Every firstborn male will be consecrated towards the Lord’ ), and to provide a sacrifice in keeping with What‘s said inside the Law from the Lord : ‘a set of two doves or two young pigeons. ‘
Now there would be a man in Jerusalem called Simeon / Pasaran Togel, who had been righteous and devout. He was waiting to the consolation of Israel, and also the Holy Spirit was upon him. It were revealed to him from the Holy Spirit that he wouldn‘t die before he‘d seen the Lord’s Christ. Moved from the Spirit, he went straight into the temple courts. Once the parents brought inside the child Jesus to carry out for him just what the custom from the Law required, Simeon took him in her arms and praised God, saying : ‘Sovereign Lord, as you‘ve promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you‘ve prepared inside the sight of people, a light for revelation towards the Gentiles as well as for glory within your people Israel. ‘
The child’s father and mother marvelled at that which was said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother : ‘This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to become a sign that‘ll be spoken against, so the thoughts of many hearts will certainly be revealed. And also a sword will pierce your own personal soul too. ‘
There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, from the tribe of Asher. She was very old ; she had lived together with her husband seven years after her marriage, after which would be a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up for them at this very moment, she gave because of God and spoke in regards to the child to all who were looking forward towards the redemption of Jerusalem.

The History behind Jesus visiting the Temple, Anna and Simeon inside the Christmas Story
Circumcision, as section of the naming ceremony for baby boys, was required by Jewish law but still is today. It‘s done to remind Jewish people from the agreement that God made having a man called Abraham inside the Old Testament from the Bible. It normally happens upon the 8th day after birth and throughout the ceremony the baby is officially named.
31 days after birth, time came for Mary and Jesus to become presented in the temple in Jerusalem to the purification service. Jesus needed to be presented, like all new babies, to become ‘paid for’. It was a method of recognising the baby would be a gift from God and really belonged to him, therefore the parents had to symbolically ‘buy back’ the baby from God. The quantity that needed to be paid for any baby was about 60 grams of silver.
Mary had to visit the temple to become symbolically made clean and pure to the blood that she had lost when she gave birth. To become made pure, a dove or any other bird needed to be sacrificed ; and to become made clean, a lamb to become sacrificed. However, if you had been poor, a dove could possibly be sacrificed rather than a lamb. That‘s why a set of two doves or pigeons were sacrificed.
When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus towards the temple to the purification service, he was welcomed and nursed by 2 very old people. Most of the Jews were eagerly awaiting a mighty and magnificent king, who would lead the others to glorious victory against their enemies. But there have been others attempting to find a just and godly Messiah. They had been referred to as ‘Quiet inside the Land’, for they spent their days in prayer and worship of God, waiting patiently to the day when he would send his chosen Saviour to earth. Simeon and Anna were two from the Quiet inside the Land. That They‘d waited many years to discover God’s promised Messiah. When they saw the baby Jesus they recognised him as God’s Deliverer and knew that their dreams were fulfilled.
The shepherds could well have bought the news of a really special baby towards the Temple once they sold their sheep to become used inside the daily sacrifices. So Anna and Simeon may need known that They Might soon begin to see the promised messiah.
